Aarti and Rakesh’s wedding Part 1 – the Indian ceremony

What a pleasure it was to spend the weekend hanging out with these two! And their equally lovely family and friends for that matter. Not only was this a beautiful wedding to photograph but it was all just so much fun, thanks largely to Aarti being the epitome of calm and kindness.

Aarti and Rakesh had two days of wedding celebrations: the Indian ceremony on Saturday at the Bharat Bhavan Indian Temple in Kilbirnie, and a civil ceremony on Sunday at Wellington College’s Brierley Theatre. The second instalment will come shortly, but in the meantime – Day 1!

Thanks to Jenny Siaosi for second-shooting for me on this first day – it was great working with you.

What a beautiful bride and what a wonderful wedding to be able to so professionally photograph. You have caught so many moments of the ceremonies and also the family and friends as they watched. Once again you have done a magnificent job of providing a great records of the occasion.

Thanks Allison. Aarti looked incredible, didn’t she? And yes, there were lots of lovely (and funny!) moments. They do some cool things in Indian ceremonies like the guys fighting over the sheet that initially separates the couple (while the women throw rice), and also at one stage a race to sit down: the winner supposedly rules the household. Aarti and Rakesh tied for first. :)

[…] but makes for one hell of a party. Day One was the Indian ceremony – you can see those photos here – and Day Two was the Western ceremony. Aarti and her bridesmaids got ready at Georgie Love […]

Thank you Catherine for photographing all the beautiful moments of our wedding weekend. I love how you managed to capture all the significant parts of the Indian ceremony and your candid shots are just amazing. Rakesh and I absolutely love the photos and are so happy with the results! You were so easy to work with and so patient, regardless of the million group photos we asked you to take! Can’t wait to see the rest of them :)

Thanks so much, Aarti! That means so much to me. No worries about all the group photos – I was just telling a friend the other day that I loved how the family connections were all so strong at your wedding. The fact that there were so many important groups is a good thing! :)
