Sarah and Matt’s garden wedding in Stokes Valley

Ah dear, my poor neglected blog! I’ve really not been good at finding the time to update it, but here are a few shots from Sarah and Matt’s lovely relaxed wedding. It was held at Sarah’s parents’ house, and rather than have a formal dinner they held a cocktail party in the garden, with a House of Dumplings stall – how cool is that? My children wanted to come along too when they heard.

We took some photos beforehand by the Hutt River and at St Pats Silverstream (where Matt went to school), which meant Sarah and Matt were able to spend lots of time with their family and friends after the ceremony. That always gets the big thumbs-up in my book. Thanks guys for a lovely day, and I wish you and your gorgeous children all the best. x

Welcome to the family, Gala

Thank you to the kind people at Queensberry who featured my album on their blog today! I’ve been a fan of Queensberry for years now and use them exclusively for my client albums and coffee table books. These flushmount panorama albums are my most popular offering: the new option of choosing medium-weight pages mean you can include more spreads for the same price, but they still have the wow factor of the thicker-paged albums.

Gale is my lovely hairdresser – she runs Just Teasing in Willis St – and it was such a pleasure to hang out with them for a morning and get lots of impulsive hugs from wee Aurelia. :)

I can see why they have featured this album. As usual, you have managed to get special shots of the family, and to illustrate the relationships as you did it. Well done.

Thanks very much, Allison!

Janelle and Eli’s wedding at Wellington’s Botanic Gardens and Wellington Rowers

I loved every minute of this wedding. Janelle and Eli are absolutely lovely people, who unsurprisingly surrounded themselves with a whole lot of other lovely people to celebrate their big day. Janelle looked jaw-droppingly beautiful in her Sophie Voon dress and custom veil. There were so many special family elements to this wedding: Janelle wore her Nana’s mother’s pearls around her wrist (she still has the card that went with them), her gorgeous Nana made the guys’ thistle boutonnieres, and her mum Glenice made the girls’ lovely bouquets. Janelle and her bridal party did the flowers for the tables, and Janelle made the multiple cakes (there were several important birthdays the same day – an 8th, a 30th and a 60th).  Janelle’s brother and sister-in-law made the wooden signs, and the ceremony reading was a poem written by Eli’s dad Ashley to mark their engagement.

Speaking of which, it was quite a cool one. Janelle was flying to Dunedin to see her family, and Eli knew she would want to share the news with them. So unbeknownst to her he caught a slightly earlier flight so that he could propose down in Dunedin. Janelle had been exhausted and had slept the whole way, so when she saw him waiting at the airport her first thought was that she’d overslept and somehow ended up back in Wellington! :)

The many faces of Marcin, aged 5

Marcin is the son of my friend Karolina, who’s a very talented photographer. He must surely win the prize for the most good-natured kid ever invented. That ready grin is going to take him a long way in life…Marcin-015

What a gorgeous kid. Can I have him? Even a loan of him would be good…

Hahaha, I’ll check with his Mum :)

Claire and Mark’s wedding at Coniston Gardens, Ashburton

I grew up on a farm in Methven, which is just down the road from Ashburton in Mid Canterbury, and for years I’ve driven past the lovely driveway to Coniston and thought it looked like a pretty magical place. So I was pretty excited when Claire and Mark got in touch about their wedding. The gardens are gorgeous – apparently even the Queen stopped in for a cup of tea when she was in New Zealand. I could happily have dragged Claire and Mark around for hours, but they had a schedule to stick to and funnily enough it included stopping with the photos so they could get married. Also, unbeknownst to Mark until the day itself, we needed to allow time for a helicopter ride into the Southern Alps! It was very cool to see all the familiar sights from the air, and beautiful (albeit windy – Claire’s veil sailed off at one point!) when we landed on a hilltop.

It was awesome that the weather played ball long enough to allow both the garden photos and the chopper ride: the rain started only as we were leaving the cute little on-site chapel, and the massive trees outside the homestead were sufficient to shelter the guests for canapes and drinks. The kids were so cute trying to grab and drink the raindrops coming off the marquee, and to all cram under the one umbrella…

Thank you Claire and Mark (and bump) for a wonderful day and I look forward to hearing your next bit of happy news later this year! x
