Art installation at QT Museum Hotel's "Gallery 4"
I am so excited about next Thursday night! It's the official opening of the QT Museum Hotel's "Gallery 4" - all 25 rooms on the fourth floor of the hotel have become an original canvas for 19 artists to showcase a unique artwork on the walls, balconies, ceilings .... wherever their inspiration took them. The initiative is called "Your Art. Our Rooms" and it has been such an honour to be given one of the rooms to go wild in. With the help of the wonderful guys at DAC, I got custom wallpaper made that features my macro photos of Eryngium giganteum, a type of thistle that as you may have noticed I have fallen in love with. :) There are two huge heads above the bed, and I loved how the adjacent mirror allowed me to double my design. The main entrance wall is covered with massive stalks, and there are thistles sprouting from behind the inbuilt cabinet opposite. My installation is officially multi-media: there will also be a copy of my fine art book Homage, a photographic ode to Eryngium giganteum, and guests can purchase a copy as a memento of their stay.
I haven't yet seen my room (#446) with the furniture installed, but Alistair and I get to be the inaugural guests next Thursday night (after a complimentary dinner at Hippopotamus, yay!). Earlier in the evening at the launch we get to go around all the other Gallery 4 rooms and meet my fellow artists - can't wait.
I will take photos of the finished room later, but in the meantime here's a little timelapse video I made of my wallpaper installation.
