Anna and Jake were married last weekend at Trentham Racecourse, and although unfortunately the rain set in just in time to scupper plans for an outdoor ceremony, it soon eased off again and we were able to take photos around the venue, with all its lovely vines, steps and doorways.
While I was with Anna and her bridesmaids at Anna's parents' place in Upper Hutt, my assistant Mark Berger photographed Jake and the guys getting ready in Titahi Bay. Jake plays for the Hurricanes and his proud parents have a huge cardboard cut-out of him on the wall: I quite liked Mark's arty take on this below!
The guys took Mark to their old school, where he got these haka photos. Then we all met up at a local park, where Anna and Jake saw each other for the first time. Jake just melted as he heard the crunch of Anna's footsteps getting closer and closer behind him - it was lovely!
Then it was on to the Mayfair Cafe, which used to be a movie theatre, for a bottle of celebratory champagne (beer for the boys).
Parasols out for the bride's arrival at Trentham for the ceremony...
Jake's mum Vicky married them - how lovely is that!? She had interviewed them beforehand on their feelings for each other, and was able to articulate on their behalf all those things that would totally choke you up to say before a crowd.
Photo above right by Mark.
This shot might need some explaining - we were under a vine-covered alcove that had pigeons roosting in it, and this was the girls' reaction when one swooped down past them!
Jake was keen to do some jumping shots and I have to say the guys did a sterling job of it! I didn't even hear any complaints about being whacked in the face numerous times by flying pounamu.
Maybe a slightly solemn photo to finish such a happy occasion with but I just loved it. To Anna and Jake and their families - thanks again - you were all wonderful! Congratulations.
