Awards success over the ditch!

What an exciting end to the week - I netted a Silver Distinction and two Silvers at the Australian professional photography awards today! The APPAs are run by the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers and this is the first year I've entered. The quality of work entered was outstanding, and the judging was tough but fair. In Australia they don't even bother with Bronzes - it's Silver, Gold or nothing. You're also allowed to enter only four images, so I put in three from last year's NZ awards (had to enter them quickly before they get too old - entries must be less than two years old) and my weird chicken, which got me a Silver at the NZ Iris awards this year. This 'pear' shot below got a Silver:

As did this beautiful wee girl:

And last but not least, Fred (below) scored 89, which is a Silver with Distinction and just one measly point off a Gold! A couple of judges argued hard that it deserved a Gold, but alas, they didn't quite manage to tip it over that crucial threshold. One said she felt that Fred's eyebrows alone were worthy. :)So my chook, which recently got a Silver in the NZIPP/Epson Iris Awards, scored 77 today, which would be a high Bronze in NZ but means nada over the ditch. One judge said the perspective, colour, composition and impact were all fantastic, but what let it down was the shadows in the background. And now that she mentions it...
