Kathryn and Stu met two years ago at a friend's barbeque and Kathryn fell pretty much instantly for that gorgeous Scottish accent. When he went away for two weeks shortly afterwards she decided she couldn't wait a whole fortnight to talk to this lovely man again, so she took the plunge and texted him first. Stu didn't reply, and Kathryn thought she'd blown it: these Kiwi women - so forward... Luckily for Kathryn (and rather unluckily for Stu) it transpired that his silence was because he'd been stricken with food poisoning, and actually he was as keen as she was.
They were married at Boomrock Lodge, a beautiful retreat set high above 8km of coastline west of Wellington. Stu arrived by helicopter - it was a wonderful day for the flight, which he found all too short. Photo above left by my assistant Jason Casson.
Kathryn's proud Dad Patrick walked her down the aisle to the sound of a Scottish bagpiper.
I love that moment when the bride and groom first see each other. Photo above right by Jason.
Celebrant Carol Galloway led the service, which was very personal and very moving. When asked: "Do you take this woman..." etc, Stu answered with a resounding "AYE!"
Just married and pretty darned happy about it!
After some photos in the lovely hills behind the lodge we headed down to the woolshed. It's a working woolshed so it was fairly fragrant, but Kathryn is a no-nonsense sort of lass and announced unprompted that she was happy to let her beautiful dress, made by Wellington designer Sophie Voon, fall to the mucky floor. We like that.
The fob watch was a gift from Stu's parents, who surprised him with it on the morning of the big day.
Guests at Boomrock can try their hand at clay-bird shooting (or just pretend :) ), petanque, extreme golf and even motor racing.
I always love it when I'm asked to stay and photograph the speeches. Wedding receptions are such love-filled events and you couldn't ask for a better opportunity to grab candid shots!

It was easy to see how good these two are together! Thank you so much to Kathryn, Stu and their lovely families for having us - we had a wonderful day. I wish you so much happiness for the future.
